Mir card system to operate across Cuba

Russian payments network continues gradual progress in Latin America

The Central Bank of Cuba announced on December 5 that the Russian Mir payment card system will be rolled out across Cuba’s retail payment networks.

The Russian ambassador to Cuba said last March that the communist-ruled island was in the final stages of bringing Mir online. In its press release, the Cuban central bank said ATMs had accepted Mir since December 2022. It pledged to gradually introduce the card at retail terminals, starting with resort areas.
