Bernanke urges BoJ to keep up its easing efforts
Former Fed chair recommends the central bank continue its aggressive easing
Ben Bernanke urged the Bank of Japan to continue its aggressive programme of monetary easing during remarks in Tokyo on May 24.
The former Fed chair noted that Japan’s economy is starting to look quite strong, but nevertheless recommended the BoJ continue its efforts. Keeping rates low would help with fiscal policy, he said, though “the more important benefit” would be to give the central bank more room to manoeuvre in the face of future shocks.
