Riksbank’s Jansson changes his mind on leaning against wind

Deputy governor says his position has shifted with benefit of hindsight

Sveriges Riksbank deputy governor Per Jansson said he has changed his mind on the benefits of leaning against the wind, having learned from Sweden’s experience.

In remarks in Stockholm today (December 6), Jansson said that, with the benefit of hindsight, the central bank’s efforts to correct financial imbalances using its policy rate were not entirely successful. He said he believed stronger hikes would have been needed to make a difference, which likely would have caused inflation to fall
