Bigger rate cut would have sent clearer signal, says BoE dissenter

MPC member says UK’s economic outlook would have justified 50bp reduction

Catherine Mann has said her decision to vote last week for a larger rate cut than most fellow members of the Bank of England’s monetary policy committee (MPC) eventually opted for was driven by a wish to “cut through the noise” about the UK’s inflation path.

Although seven MPC members voted for a 25 basis point cut, Mann was one of two dissenting voices calling for a 50bp reduction.
