Central Bank of Kenya lowers rate by 75bp

Bank says there is scope for further easing following its second cut this year

The Central Bank of Kenya on October 8 lowered its policy rate for a second time this year, to 12%, and said there was scope for further easing.

It said inflation had fallen from 4.4% in August to 3.6% in September, which put it below the midpoint of the bank’s 2.5–7.5% target range. 

It added that it expected overall inflation to remain below the midpoint “in the near term, supported by lower food inflation owing to improved supply from the ongoing harvests, a stable exchange rate, and stable
