Eurozone governments must tackle energy crisis, says ECB
Philip Lane backed 75bp raise against opposition from some dovish members in most recent meeting
Eurozone governments need to take the lead in tackling the bloc’s energy inflation, the European Central Bank’s rate-setters said at their most recent meeting.
The account of the governing council’s meeting on September 7 and 8 showed its members agreed that governments needed to deal with the energy crisis. It also showed that the ECB’s chief economist Philip Lane backed the successful proposal to raise rates by 75 basis points, against some members’ opposition.
