Emergency meeting loosens policy in response to pandemic and energy price fall
Uzbekistan’s central bank cut policy rates by 100 basis points after an emergency meeting on April 14, in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The central bank announced on April 14 that it had cut policy rates from 16% to 15%. It had been due to hold its next monetary policy meeting on April 23. The central bank said, in a statement issued in Russian, that moves taken to combat the virus, as well as falling oil prices, have significantly affected household incomes.
