The end of the dollar standard is in sight. It may take some time to decide on a replacement, but efforts to find one are beginning. The US has rarely acted to defend the dollar, always choosing domestic over international concerns. Many defend the US's choice of employment as the main economic policy objective, but it is not the objective that maintains confidence in the future of the dollar standard.
