Poilievre accuses government of interfering in central bank
The leader of Canada’s largest opposition party has repeated threats to fire central bank governor Tiff Macklem.
Speaking in Niagara Falls, Ontario, on July 19, Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre claimed the government controlled the central bank.
“I want a central bank that is not dominated by the prime minister’s office like we have now,” Poilievre said. “We want a central bank that has only one mandate: low and stable prices.”
