West African leaders name new central bank governor

Previous governor departed in April, leaving interim leadership unclear

Eight governments in West Africa appointed Jean-Claude Kassi Brou as next governor of the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) on June 4.

The previous governor of the BCEAO – Tiémoko Meyliet Koné – became vice-president of the Côte d’Ivoire on April 20. Ivoirian president Alassane Ouattara told press that Brou, who currently leads a regional economic body, would become BCEAO governor on July 4 this year.
