São Tomé governor replaced
Central bank chief had challenged prime minister for party leadership
The government of São Tomé and Príncipe removed central bank governor Américo Barros on March 25, according to Portuguese news agency Lusa.
Press reports indicate that the government selected Eugénio Soares as the new governor. Soares was serving as executive director for financial systems supervision at the central bank.
Soares has a PhD in socioeconomic development from the Technical University of Lisbon in Portugal. He has served as finance minister and a member of parliament, and in
