Draghi accepts task of leading next Italian government
Former ECB president must first secure enough parliamentary support to become prime minister
Mario Draghi accepted a request from Italian president Sergio Mattarella to form a new government today (February 3).
The former president of the European Central Bank needs to secure support in Parliament to become prime minister. If he succeeds, Draghi will become the first governor of a major central bank who has gone on to lead a G7 economy.
Draghi is due to immediately start a round of consultations with all party leaders to canvass their willingness to support his technocratic government
