Malawi’s newly elected president, Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, has dismissed the governor of the nation’s central bank and appointed a new one.

Chakwera became president of the small African nation after winning elections in late June. He has formed a government and replaced the heads of several official institutions.

Local media reported on July 2 that Dalitso Kabambe was fired as Reserve Bank of Malawi governor by Chakwera. The new president appointed Wilson Banda to the role on July 8.
