‘A huge job in anybody’s terms’ – BoE’s court sets criteria for new governor

Governor must be able to promote the UK post-Brexit, while issue of diversity looms large

The governorship of the Bank of England is a “huge job in anybody’s terms”, said BoE court chair Bradley Fried today (May 1), as he sketched out his ideal candidate for the role.

Mark Carney is due to leave the role at the end of January 2020, with a replacement set to take over on February 1. The role is being advertised publicly by the government, but the stringent requirements will exclude most hopefuls – the successful candidate must be comfortable at the head of a “complex and powerful”
