Austrian far-right party nominates economist for governor

Austria’s coalition government has named an economist linked to the country’s far-right party as the next governor of its central bank, locally-based reporters said.

Robert Holzmann is the choice of the country’s hard-right Freedom Party (FPO) to become the next governor of the Austrian National Bank, according to several media sources, including Reuters news agency. The Freedom Party is in a coalition with Austria’s centre-right Austrian People’s Party or OVP, led by the country’s chancellor
