People: South Korea’s Juyeol Lee nominated for new term
Appointments in South Korea and Vietnam, and a resignation in Switzerland
South Korea: Bank of Korea governor Juyeol Lee has been nominated to serve an additional four-year term at the head of the central bank.
South Korea’s president put Lee’s name forward, citing his “extensive experience” with macroeconomics and financial markets, in a statement published on March 2.
The president also stressed the need to maintain the central bank’s independence, mentioning that long terms of office in Europe and the US help to ensure stable monetary policy.
