Italian premier proposes Visco for a second term, despite opposition
Former prime minister Renzi tried to derail governor’s renewal, questioning his record on supervision
The centre-left Italian prime minister, Paolo Gentiloni, has reportedly proposed Ignazio Visco for a second six-year mandate as governor of the Bank of Italy, despite the last-hour resistance of former head of government Matteo Renzi.
Several Italian papers said Gentiloni had nominated Visco, in reports published this afternoon.
The nomination came despite opposition from the former PM. Renzi, the leader of the Democratic Party (PD), the main member of Italy’s governing coalition, criticised
