Skingsley calls for balance, as government prepares to rethink Riksbank Act

Government inquiry to consider six areas of Riksbank’s work

The Swedish government should strive for balance if it chooses to makes changes to the central bank law, Sveriges Riksbank deputy governor Cecilia Skingsley said today (September 13).

Skingsley saw a tension between the need for a "clear mission and mandate" on the one hand, and allowing the central bank to perform its tasks "independently and flexibly" on the other, speaking at a conference marking the 200th anniversary of the National Bank of Austria.
