China’s shadow banking market dominated by banks
BIS researchers map the Chinese shadow banking system and its evolution over time
China’s shadow banking system is dominated by commercial banks, in contrast to the US, and has witnessed the rapid rise of risky savings products in recent years, according to new research.
Bank for International Settlements economists Torsten Ehlers, Steven Kong and Feng Zhu outline the results of an effort to “map” China’s shadow banking system in a working paper, published today (February 12).
