Malaysia and Thailand launch real-time cross-border payments
Central banks reach milestone for Asean payment connectivity plan
Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and the Bank of Thailand (BoT) launched a QR code-based platform to connect the countries’ real-time payment systems, the central banks announced on June 18.
With the new linkage, consumers in both countries will be able to make instant cross-border payments by scanning QR codes using their national mobile payment applications. Consumers in Thailand can use their mobile payment applications to scan DuitNow QR codes, Malaysia’s national unified QR code system.
