Lagarde urges central banks to consider CBDCs
IMF chief sees obvious benefits to central bank digital currencies, but design is crucial
The managing director of the International Monetary Fund says central banks should seriously consider issuing digital currencies in the future.
“There may be a role for the state to supply money to the digital economy,” Christine Lagarde said today (November 14).
“This currency could satisfy public policy goals, such as financial inclusion, and security and consumer protection, and provide what the private sector cannot – privacy in payments,” she said.
Lagarde’s stance is in contrast to her
