Riksbank outlines three visions of ‘e-krona’
Sweden’s central bank presents three cryptocurrency models as solution to payments conundrum
In its first comprehensive report on the e-krona project, Sveriges Riksbank says that the direction in which payment systems have been evolving could pose a problem for central banks. This is especially true in Sweden, where cash is becoming even less used.
“The Riksbank has the statutory tasks of promoting a safe and efficient payment system … The possibility to complete these tasks may deteriorate if developments on the payment market continue,” the central bank says.
