Australia’s real-time payment system to go live in 2017 – Lowe
Test payments already being settled on new real-time payments platform, says RBA governor
The governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) says the new payments platform (NPP) is scheduled to go live in late 2017, bringing Australia's retail payments infrastructure to the "global frontier".
In a foreword published in the bank's annual payments report, Philip Lowe explains the new payments platform will enable payments by households, businesses and government agencies that are real time, available 24/7, "data rich and easily addressed".
