Coins and notes with same value to circulate in Angola

Central bank will cut costs since it will ‘produce fewer banknotes’

The National Bank of Angola is going to issue two new coins with the same value as existing banknotes, as part of wider efforts to boost the use of coins in the country.

The 50 and 100 kwanza coins, set for release on November 11, will circulate alongside the banknotes of the same denomination "until further notice".

"In a second phase, it's possible the notes will be withdrawn from circulation, depending on the usage of the coins," a central bank spokesperson explains.
