Angola launches new notes and coins, cuts base rate

The National Bank of Angola (NBA) plans to introduce a complete new set of notes and coins for the first time since the current iteration of the kwanza was introduced in 1999.

The new coins will be introduced on February 18, while the new notes – including a new largest note, worth 5,000 kwanzas – will be phased in from March 22 to the end of June 2013.

The notes will incorporate a number of new security features, including watermarks, metal strips, embossed text, micro-text, and UV and infra
