Mauritius governor opens new currency museum named after first governor

Museum ‘Aunauth Beejadhur’ will exhibit Mauritian currency throughout the ages

The Bank of Mauritius has paid homage to its first governor, Aunauth Beejadhur, naming its newly established currency museum after him as part of its fiftieth anniversary celebrations.

“The board of directors decided to dedicate this auditorium to late Aunauth Beejadhur in recognition of his pivotal contributions to… the Bank of Mauritius,” current governor Rameswurlall Basant Roi said on opening the museum.

Beejadhur became governor of the central bank in 1967, a year after he was charged
