‘More and better’ data needed on non-bank sector – FSB’s Schindler

Lack of transparency hinders effective oversight, says secretary-general

The secretary-general of the Financial Stability Board (FSB) has argued that “more and better” data needs to be collected on non-bank financial institutions.

Speaking at the Eurofi Financial Forum in Budapest on September 12, John Schindler noted that some jurisdictions had no legal requirements for non-banks to report data critical for financial stability assessments. This, he said, meant there was little data on which to base such assessments.
