Minneapolis Fed paper supports ban on enforcing non-competes
New law in Minnesota prevents companies from restricting where former employees can go to work
A new law in Minnesota banning enforcement of non-compete agreements will prompt a healthier economy, argue researchers with the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis.
Companies in the US often require prospective employees to sign non-compete agreements before they can begin work. The agreements dictate that employees cannot compete with the company once they have stopped working for it. Non-competes may include a requirement that an employee cannot start a competing company or join another firm
