Lower-paid workers hit hardest both by 2008 recession and slump caused by pandemic
Education and skills have played an important role in determining the employment impacts of the coronavirus pandemic, an International Monetary Fund economist argues.
Women are more likely to work in industries and occupations that are affected more severely during recessions, Ippei Shibata says in a blogpost.
Looking at the recession caused by the coronavirus pandemic and by the 2008 financial crisis, Shibata shows “low-income workers have suffered more than top-income earners”.
