Researchers warn US vacancies are ‘untethered’ from other data
Minneapolis Fed economists say US could face “more substantial job losses”
Job vacancies may be much slimmer than reported in official data, risking unexpected costs to employment, researchers from the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis warn.
“The relationship between job vacancies and other labour market indicators has become unstable over a period of many years,” they write. Official reporting on vacancies is “untethered from other indicators”.
