IMF approves $370 million credit facility for Afghanistan

New programme aims to support country’s recovery from Covid-19

The executive board of the International Monetary Fund approved a new extended credit facility arrangement for Afghanistan on November 6.

The programme will remain in force for 42 months, and provide authorities with $370 million to support the recovery from Covid-19.

The programme “seeks to preserve macroeconomic stability, reverse the fiscal deterioration caused by the pandemic, and protect development and social spending”, said the fund in a statement.
