ECB launches digital euro preparation phase

Phase includes CBDC rulebook and selection of providers, as well as testing

The governing council of the European Central Bank (ECB) approved the launch of a new phase in the development of a digital euro today (October 18).

This new step, called the “preparation phase”, will start on November 1, 2023, and is initially envisioned to last for two years. Nonetheless, this is not a decision to issue a digital euro.
