ECB’s Panetta stresses digital euro should preserve privacy
Central bank launches public consultation on digital euro
The European Central Bank will focus its efforts on safeguarding privacy during its recently launched digital euro project.
Executive board member Fabio Panetta highlighted the exercise’s main goals in a speech before the European parliament on October 12. Additionally, Panetta confirmed the ECB’s governing council will decide in mid-2021 whether to initiate “a fully fledged project that should lead us to define the specific characteristics of a digital euro and get ready for a possible launch”
