Cash still reigns in euro area

Large number of countries still use cash for high-value payments

A large portion of countries in the eurozone still use cash for transactions greater than €100 ($117), a recent study produced by the European Central Bank reveals.

The survey, results of which were published in September, notes that while higher-value transactions are mainly carried out using payment cards, more than one-third of point-of-sale transactions involving amounts greater than €100 are still made in cash.

But there was a large disparity across the eurozone. In seven countries
