SNB official rebuffs claims cash is at death’s door. There is still a “robust demand for cash”, says Fritz Zurbrügg

An official from the Swiss National Bank (SNB) has come out in defence of cash, scolding critics for their predictions of its impending demise.

Speaking at the first World Banknote Summit, held in Basel on February 27, Fritz Zurbrügg – deputy chairman of the SNB's governing board – argued that cash is a safe form of payment and is here to stay.
