BoE bows to persuasion as Austen proves banknotes not just a man’s field
The 19th century novelist Jane Austen will feature on the UK's £10 note from 2017, the Bank of England (BoE) revealed today, ensuring the United Kingdom retains a woman on its banknotes.
The central bank has also launched a formal review seeking to "refine the criteria for character selection", as hinted at by governor Mark Carney earlier this month.
These announcements mark the culmination of a three-month campaign against the central bank's move towards an all-male banknote roster.
