Indonesian central bank to buy $30 billion debt from government

Central bank will receive below-market yield for most purchases in two-year programme

Indonesia’s central bank will buy around sovereign debt worth $30 billion over two years, its governor and the finance minister announced on August 24.

Bank Indonesia will buy a total of 439 trillion-rupiah ($30.4 billion) worth of sovereign bonds directly from the government, it said. It will buy 215 trillion rupiah ($14.9 billion) this year, followed by 224 trillion-rupiah ($15.5 billion) in 2022.
