RBA recommendations lead to creation of new industry body

The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) announced the creation of the Australian Payments Council yesterday, a new body that comprises senior executives from a wide range of payments organisations and designed to "generate common industry positions for actions".

In Australia, the RBA's payments system board is responsible for "promoting the safety and efficiency" of the financial plumbing alongside the industry's self-regulatory body, the Australian Payments Clearing Association (Apca).
