The government of South Africa cannot "dictate" interest rate policy, the governor of the South African Reserve Bank (Sarb) has stressed.

In recent months, members of the ruling political party in South Africa have suggested certain powers related to the central bank be removed from its mandate and placed under the authority of the finance minister.
