Liikanen sees potential for payments revolution

Bank of Finland governor feels like ‘something fundamental has changed’

The next change in the payment industry may be a "revolution", Bank of Finland governor Erkki Liikanen said on June 4, at a conference held jointly with the European Central Bank.

"Digital purses, mobile phone apps and some other niche payment solutions exist, but all in all, we haven't yet witnessed the emergence of a true future payment system," he said. "Still, it seems that something fundamental has changed."
