Pianalto confident in case for faster retail payments

The challenges of building a faster payments system are outweighed by the opportunities that system would create, according to Sandra Pianalto, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland.

The 12 Federal Reserve regional banks clubbed together to call for improvements in the US payment system earlier this month. Pianalto acknowledged it would require "years of hard work" to make near-real-time payments a reality, but argued it would be a worthwhile endeavour.
