Ingves defends position on rate-setting

Stefan Ingves, Sveriges Riksbank governor, defended the use of monetary policy in managing the risks which stem from household indebtedness in a speech on December 4.

Ingves told an audience in Luleå monetary policy has to step in and fill the void of other suitable instruments for managing the risks. "The less others do, the more monetary policy has to do," he said.

The issue has divided the Riksbank's executive board over the past two years, particularly when setting the central bank's repo
