BoE’s Weale discusses monetary policy challenges

Martin Weale, an external member of the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee, delivered a speech on June 21 in which he drew attention to the "rough waters" of the global economic environment, and welcomed new schemes put forward by the Bank to support the economy.

Speaking at the University of Surrey in Guildford, Weale said the "immediate prospects for the economy have worsened". He drew particular attention to figures from April that showed declining exports to the US and Germany, and
