ECB’s Praet highlights importance of Sepa co-operation

Peter Praet, a member of the European Central Bank's executive board, on Wednesday said the right balance between co-operation and competition would need to be struck in the Single Euro Payments Area (Sepa) project.

At an off-site meeting of the European Payments Council in Brussels, Praet said: "The Eurosystem has argued from the outset that the harmonisation of standards and rules for retail payments is necessary to overcome the current fragmentation of payment instruments and infrastructure
