Wealth main determinant of bank service distribution: SNB paper

A Swiss National Bank paper, published on Thursday, says the levels of bank holding accounts and bank cards increases with income, wealth and education in most countries.

Thorsten Beck and Martin Brown, the paper's authors, use survey data for 29,000 households from 29 transition economies to explore how the use of banking services is related to household characteristics, bank ownership structure and the development of the financial infrastructure.

Beck and Brown find that households with higher
