Norges Bank questions contingency plans for cash distribution

Report warns Norwegian banks’ back-up plans “may prove inadequate” in a crisis

Norwegian banks' contingency plans for cash distribution "may prove inadequate" in the event of a crisis, the country's central bank has warned.

Banks are expected to cope with full or partial failure of the payment system. In its last financial infrastructure report, Norges Bank argues it is not sufficiently clear whether electronic payment solutions "can take over the role of cash" in a crisis.
