ECB’s Cœuré champions retail payments integration

Benoît Cœuré, a member of the European Central Bank's (ECB) executive board, extolled the benefits of integrating retail payments in a speech at a Budapest conference on November 15.

Cœuré said an integrated retail payments market is crucial to the proper functioning of a market economy, and to people's trust in the currency as a means of exchange – a necessary condition of the Economic and Monetary Union.
