Bank of Lithuania warns of stained banknotes after ATM theft
The Bank of Lithuania today urged the public and businesses not to accept litas banknotes stained with ink as they could be the result of the theft of an ATM in the country.
An ATM belonging to AB Swedbank was stolen overnight in Kaunas on April 17. The central bank explained that the machine was fitted with security equipment that would be triggered if it were opened illegally, spraying the notes inside with a permanent ink.
