Carstens content with Mexican position

Governor of the Bank of Mexico, Agustín Carstens, said on Wednesday that Mexican central bank message was one of certainty and that monetary policy steps were available should the global economic position worsen.

Speaking at a forum convened by the National Association of Economists, Carstens said: "A large part of the global financial crisis has been the result of bad public policy." He said lessons had been learned, and that was why Mexico has "not suffered the severe consequences" other
