Draghi appointed ECB president

Mario Draghi, the governor of the Bank of Italy, was on Friday confirmed as the next president of the European Central Bank (ECB).

The European Council said it had agreed to the appointment of Draghi as the successor to Jean-Claude Trichet, the ECB's current president, when his term expires on October 31.
